Flourish at the farm - our on-site training days and workshops

We understand that some people prefer to get hands-on and have some time with us here at the farm.  We get it! Whilst online training is our core school offer, we were determined to create some options throughout the year for people to join us here.  Fieldgate Flowers is a busy working flower farm, but we have put together a range of options, for the most frequently requested on-site training.

Opening our doors: The Clockhouse Floral Studio

Join us here at the Clock house – our beautiful, cosy floral studio right here at the farm, complete with log burner for colder days, and full air conditioning for the height of summer! Oh yes, we have thought of everything!

The flowers here could NOT be fresher. With 5 acres of land and around 3 acres of growing space, we are so lucky to be able to provide all the cut flowers for your floristry training, right here from  Field Gate Flowers. Our season begins in March, heralding the arrival of spring with a vibrant selection of tulips, ranunculus, and narcissi. We continue to supply a diverse array of fresh blooms and foliage right through until December, ensuring we can feature stunning, seasonal flowers throughout the year.  We LOVE to welcome students on to the farm and into our floral studio, Roz will welcome you into her home with open arms and you will receive a personal experience that no other floristry school can offer.

The flower selection you will work with will depend on the time of year, and availability – bringing a true “Farm to Vase” experience to your floristry. The team will cut and condition your flowers the DAY BEFORE you work with them; floral ingredients just don’t get any fresher than that; you will notice the difference that makes for your floral creations.

Our training days and workshops here on the farm

  • Working at a bigger scale, in the surroundings and architecture of a large building, is one of the pure joys of floral design! We LOVE to go large!

It’s important to consider the surroundings and the space that you are designing in. So, we take you to Church, to work within the environment, get a feel for the space and different proportions.

We’ll talk about scale, proportion, colour, visual and actual weight, the importance of balance and the all important foundations.

  • The main-stay of all floristry – creating your own hand-tied bouquet, from scratch – using your own design instincts, colour choices and style, is a complete joy and something to feel really proud of!

However, it CAN be over-complicated and cause some stress and anxiety when you are first starting out! We absolutely LOVE bouquet-making at the Great British Flower School, and take great pride in our no-jargon, easy tips and tricks, and simplified teaching methods. EVERYONE leaves happy and proud and confident.

  • The meadow box has become increasingly popular as a design piece in floristry. It’s elegant, whimsical and can give such a good big impact. It’s so versatile too – and can be used in so many areas. Creating a meadow box display with no-foam requires a little bit of mechanics-know-how, and some tips and tricks for ease of transportation. The design options for this versatile piece are endless - we can utilise the meadow box mechanic to work for us in many ways.

No previous experience is necessary, just an absolute love of flowers, colour and naturally abundant displays!

  • A beautifully designed bowl centrepiece is a truly stunning addition to any event, wedding or home décor design, but takes much more thought and insight than popping them all straight in.

We’ll show you the design techniques and mechanics, discuss the shape options, the stem choices, looking at our ingredients to create the shape and working with what we have. Colour, texture, form and the all-important use of negative space within a bowl table centre, can make all the difference.

  • It’s a sad truth that the traditional style funeral flowers seen in most funeral director’s catalogues, are leaving more behind than just the memories. Unfortunately, the single-use plastics (plastic-derived floral foam), poly-ribbons and plastic card holders are also making a huge impact on our environment.

We are determined to spread the word and make it part of normal everyday conversation, that alternative options ARE available, and we’d love to share this knowledge and show you how.
